Teamwork and Collaboration
Piano has been a part of my life since the age of 5. I've been taking private lessons for 12 years and have performed in recitals at least twice every year. Fortunately, I'm continuing my piano studies into University and will be performing to a jury for solo pieces and accompanying ensemble.
Consistent practice for a dozen years has taught me constancy and dedication. Because of piano, I've also developed great hand-eye coordination, muscle memory and mental math.
Band has been a part of my life since 6th grade. I've played percussion and clarinet but I'm currently playing trumpet in Jazz Orchestra, Concert Band and Wind Ensemble for the University of Puget Sound.
Participation in band has taught me leadership, formerly being lead trumpet and most valuable musician in high school. In the beginning of high school, I experienced a freak accident involving my ring finger. I learned to adapt to a different instrument quickly, being able to catch up with the rest of the high school band within a few months.
Sports have been a substantial part of my life since kindergarten. I played recreational soccer, then competitively, up until the beginning of the outbreak of COVID-19. I began to spend great portions of my days towards golf, in which my abilities on the course skyrocketed. If I'm able to, I plan to walk on to the golf team at University of Puget Sound.
Due to athletics, I push myself even more to become a better athlete, musician and student. Sports have taught me discipline on the field, in the classroom and with volunteer work.
For a great portion of my life, I participated with Wild Whatcom, if that was volunteering or with my hiking group. Wild Whatcom is an outdoors program that brings children ages 7-14 into the wilderness, to learn about our surrounding nature and to enjoy unforgettable experiences with new friends. I joined Wild Whatcom in 2012 and began volunteering in 2018. I amounted over 500 volunteer hours from service outings (planting trees, removing invasive plants in an environmentally-friendly manor) and assisting paid mentors with the kids on the outings. Through Wild Whatcom, I grew a strong connection with my local wilderness, and the ability to communicate and work with younger kids.
