Manages daily operations, patient flow, and staffing for the unit, acting as a clinical leader and resource while providing direct care, coordinating multidisciplinary teams (physicians, anesthesia), mentoring staff, and ensuring high-quality, safe patient care for mothers and newborns from labor through postpartum recovery.

Labor & Delivery: Monitor fetal heartbeats, assess contractions, assist with vaginal exams, manage pain (epidurals, IV meds), coach mothers, support doctors during deliveries (vaginal, C-section), and handle emergent situations.

Recovery & Postpartum: Provide immediate newborn care (baths, immunizations), assist with breastfeeding, monitor mother-baby vitals, manage IVs and medications, and assess for complications.

Patient/Family Support: Offer emotional support, education on childbirth, newborn care, and breastfeeding, creating a positive birthing experience.

Coordination & Documentation: Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, perform EMR documentation, and potentially act as a charge nurse.

Providing direct patient support, assisting nurses and doctors with basic care and monitoring, and performing clinical tasks like taking vital signs, collecting samples, EKGs, and helping with daily activities (bathing, dressing, mobility), while also offering emotional support and communicating changes to the healthcare team. PCTs ensure patient comfort, safety, and well-being, working in hospitals, nursing homes, or clinics.

Managed insurance claims, patient billing, and payments, acting as a liaison between providers and payers by verifying coverage, submitting codes (like CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS), resolving denials, posting payments, and communicating with patients and insurers about outstanding balances, ensuring compliance with regulations like HIPAA and maintaining accurate financial records.
