Work History
Mechanical Designer - Nuclear Power Group
Sargent and Lundy
Phoenix, AZ
04.2023 - Current
Received unescorted access authorization for the PV Nuclear Generating Station.
Assisted in the design of underground piping replacements for plant water supply systems, consisting of concrete cylinder pipe, carbon fiber-lined CCP, HDPE, and above-ground stainless steel piping transitions to heat exchangers.
Worked toward being proficient in Descartes, raster manipulation, and 3D modeling through MicroStation. Also, I developed a general understanding of generating deliverables more efficiently through company-owned pipe routing software.
Assisted in the design for the GE Electrohydraulic Skid Replacement, involving new hydraulic piping and equipment replacements, and also assisted with civil and structural deliverables. Developed a better understanding of SAE fittings and connections.
Assisted in the new Modular Chiller Plant installation, consisting of integrating new 12"-24" piping with existing plant process connections.
Assisted in locating new air handling units, condenser units, exhaust air systems, and physical routing for new refrigerant lines.
Developed general arrangements, isometrics, orthographic drawings, and details for different projects.
Piping Designer
Tessenderlo Group
Phoenix, AZ
05.2021 - 09.2022
Generated isometric drawings, plans and sections, and electrical heat trace drawings using CADWorx Plant.
Managed multiple project P&IDs simultaneously using Cadworx P&ID Professional with Microsoft Access.
Attended each project HAZOP meeting and model review to give/receive feedback on changes made to P&IDs and the project as a whole.
Estimated costs for time spent on upcoming P&ID projects to include in project plans estimates.
Traveled to sites to verify the correct installation of steam and condensate manifolds with correct tagging per piping drawings.
Traveled to sites to locate tie points for upcoming projects and as-built P&IDs upon each project completion.
Coordinated with project engineer on final as-built drawings for accurate record of final design implemented on site.
CAD Technician
Tessenderlo Group
Phoenix, AZ
08.2018 - 05.2021
Received promotion and permanent position after two years of drafting for the company.
Assisted in turnaround preparation by tagging tie-ins and verifying material on-site.
Traveled to different sites to learn about potential hazards to the operators and how to keep safety in mind as a designer.
Attended site walkdowns to inspect, measure, and verify field dimensions of piping installations.
Collaborated with other departments to generate lists and data for instruments, valves, equipment/specialty items, and process lines for each individual project.
Generated bill of materials for system isometrics and piping isometrics for each individual project.
Developed skills with Intergraph Smart P&ID to manage future P&ID projects for the company.
Drafter
Tessenderlo Kerley Services
Phoenix, AZ
08.2016 - 08.2018
Read Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and equipment layouts to understand their relationship to developing the 3D model of the given piping systems.
Utilized Autocad and to generate motor control schematics, one-line diagrams, lighting and instrumentation details, and power panel schedules.
Worked closely with the lead electrical engineer to develop my understanding of electrical schematics, diagrams, and schedules.
Received and reviewed details from design professionals to determine precise measurements for drawing preparation.
Implemented revisions as required by engineers and design professionals within the company.
Learned how to apply design standards and respect individual company design practices.
Walked down P&IDs to inspect accurate installations with Sr. Piping Designer and Design manager to develop my understanding of process piping design.
Worked long overtime hours on site with other team members to gather all piping materials needed for tie-ins to meet a very strict turnaround deadline.
