Skills

1 Drill Locator (Bore Tracking & Navigation)
I'm responsible for guiding the drill head safely along a predetermined path from above ground

  • Signal Tracking: Operates walk-over tracking electronic receivers (like DigiTrak or Ditch Witch Subsite) to monitor the depth, pitch, orientation, and temperature of the underground drill head (sonde)
  • Real-Time Guidance: Maintains constant two-way radio communication with the Drill Operator to direct movement, speed, and steering corrections
  • Blueprint Reading: Utility prints, engineering site plans, and bore paths to avoid underground obstructions
  • As-Built Logging: Documents and logs the final path and depth measurements of the drill shot
  • 2 Potholer (Utility Verification)
Potholing (also known as daylighting) is a critical safety step before and during drilling I visually confirms the exact location of existing underground utilities

  • Visual Verification: Uses high-pressure water or air combined with a powerful vacuum system (vacuum excavation) to non-destructively dig small, precise test holes
  • Exposing Hazards: Physically uncovers marked lines (gas, electric, fiber, water) to ensure the drill bit will not strike them
  • Color Code Application: Uniform utility color codes to identify uncovered lines
  • 3 General Laborer (Crew Support)
Provides the physical groundwork necessary to keep the operation running smoothly, safely, and efficiently

  • Site Preparation: Sets up temporary traffic controls, signs, safety cones, and safety zones according to OSHA and DOT standards
  • Manual Digging: Uses shovels, jackhammers, auger bit and tampers around live utility lines where machinery cannot be used
  • Rig Assistance: Handles ground duties such as mixing drilling fluids , adding drill rods, connecting product lines (like fiber or conduit pulls), and setting up reels
  • Equipment Hauling: Drives support vehicles and assists in loading, unloading, and cleaning heavy equipment
