Started as an Iraqi convoy driver during the war in Iraq. Responsibilities included delivering military assets to various bases throughout the country to support the U.S. Military and it's mission utilizing numerous types of standard and specialized equipment and delivering cargo that was just as diverse in less than favorable conditions.
Moving up the chain of command as the need was great, I was promoted to a convoy recovery bobtail driver who handled adverse situations while in transit with the ultimate goal of ensuring that government assets arrived at their destination by any means necessary. In the event that an asset couldn't be delivered, I was the point person to make the call to have the asset destroyed so as not to become an asset for those whom it was not intended to be.
Continuing on my journey up the chain of command, I was promoted to convoy commander who's job was to lead the mission to it's destination and was accountable for everyone and everything in transport. I also acted as the point of contact with the military commanders on mission to assess, address, and resolve any issues that would arise.
And my final promotion was to the position of logistics coordinator where I was the military liaison and point person for missions departing COB Speicher in the Tikrit region. My duties included receiving the list of assets to be moved and the destination from the military. I also had to determine the number of trucks and the type of equipment needed to complete the mission. I was also responsible for assigning the drivers and to make sure that everyone was mission ready and capable. Then I had to assemble a team to load various assets on the appropriate type of trailer, Afterwards, I was responsible for putting eyes on each and every asset and verify by R.F.I.D. tags as well as other identifying markings that all of the requested assets were indeed loaded, properly secured, and on the corresponding vehicle for transport. I had to make mission logs that included the assets, vehicle numbers, driver intel (including blood type), confirmation of push time and destination, etc. I also conducted pre-mission TSTI's (Safety & Awareness meetings) in addition to assuming the responsibility for any bad actors or misdeeds by convoy participants.
The bottom line was that I was responsible for the success of missions with well over 200 men per mission involved in assembly and execution of missions departing on a daily basis. The work in theater was seven days a week and 12 hours a day of documented hours. With the demand and responsibility upon my shoulders, I found myself working 16-18 hours a day which enabled me to boast an exemplary mission success rate of which I am very proud of.
