Compassionate and motivated professional with a Master’s degree in Human Genetics and Genomics and extensive experience supporting and counseling patients across clinical, research, and hospital settings. Skilled in empathetic communication, resource navigation, and collaborative care planning. Proven ability to work both independently and as part of interdisciplinary teams to deliver personalized, patient-centered support. Driven by a strong desire to pursue a career as a genetic counselor and committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families navigating genetic conditions.
Shadowed Maysen Mesaros, MS, CGC, a certified genetic counselor in a neurology unit, where I observed counseling sessions for patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Gained firsthand experience in how genetic information is communicated with empathy, and how resources are provided to support patients and their families.
Also shadowed Dr. Katie Mascia, MD, FACMG, FAAP, a medical geneticist at the Central Pennsylvania Clinic, which serves the Amish and Mennonite communities. This experience offered exposure to a wide variety of rare genetic conditions, often linked to consanguinity. I had the opportunity to meet families, observe in-person consultations, and sit in on multidisciplinary appointments including those with registered dietitians, deepening my understanding of holistic genetic care.
