Summary

As a 22-year-old aspiring journalist, my biggest goal is to gain as much opportunity and knowledge as I can within the work force and my career field. In my academic life, I am driven; focused; passionate; creative; reliable; eager to learn. Where the work force is concerned, I would consider myself the exact same way. I am a quick learner with an enthusiastic attitude and friendly personality. In any company or publication, I aim to excel (at) and contribute to communications, organization, teamwork, and offering the necessary qualities to a group or program to help it thrive. In my experience with academic and local publications, my skillset includes: writing, editing (mostly copy; basic level for video/audio), In-Design layout, leadership, team bonding/building, hosting and planning events, and more.

Editorial Intern

Legacy Magazine
Miami, FL
07.2023 - 12.2023
  • What started as a 6-week summer internship eventually expanded into a 12-week fall internship, where I have had the utmost pleasure of working with MIA Media Group's South Florida-based magazine publication, Legacy Magazine. My experience with these consecutive internships helped me to further develop my communications skills – both written and orally – and understand the inner workings of the field and its operative side.
  • As a summer intern, I shadowed and assisted the editorial team in day-to-day operations on the administrative front, including acting as an assistant to the editor-in-chief and playing a facilitating role in managing editorial content, deadlines, and communications with story subjects and reporters. I also had the pleasure of covering the traditional Orange Blossom Classic game, where I attended a promotional event and interviewed Howard alumni Wendy Raquel Robinson and Yandy Smith.
  • With this opportunity, I developed and practiced crucial skills in communications, leadership, and on the operational levels of a magazine publication by facilitating deadlines, meetings, and working with weekly editorial assignments.
  • As a fall intern, I continued with my administrative role while honing on reporting skills by covering events such as the Miami Book Fair. This 10-week internship helped me to focus on the growth of my reporting skills through writing briefs and a book profile on author Lola Haskins.
  • Attended local events to cover and report stories.
  • Caption writing
  • Light proofing
