I have a strong background both in childcare and disabilities. On a personal level, I have been the main caregiver to my children, two of whom have disabilities for 13 years. On the parent end I've gone through the Early Intervention system with three of my kids, have been responsible for attending evaluation & re-evaluation planning meetings, IEP meetings, advocating for my childrens' needs both educationally and medically. I have sheduled and attended countless appointments with specialists not limited to neurologists and physiatrists but outpatient therapies. I have a working knowledge of the Perform Care System and have worked with IIC's and BA's.
On a professional level, I have been employed with the Arc of Union County for 4 years. I work at the Saturday respite program, after school respite, recreation programs with adults with developmental disabilities and sometimes work weekend hotel respites. Prior to this employment, I was a stay-at-home mom and caregiver for my children. However, prior to the birth of my firstborn, I was a Respite Worker providing in-home respite and Saturday respite also with the Arc of Union County for 6 years as well as a professional nanny to a family of 3.
These experiences give me a unique perspective from the side of a parent and what we look for in the professionals who work with our children as well as how rewarding it is to work with other children with disabilities and see how they progress while I develop a rapport and relastionship with them that encourages them to progress in their ADL's.
