The Directed Operations Group is an all encompassing unit and used as a problem solving unit for issues around the city. The unit gathers intelligence related to suspects, residences, and businesses and uses that information to determine if action needs to be taken against them. The unit frequently surveils locations for criminal activity and is often called upon by detectives to arrest their suspects. The unit monitors 65 predatory offenders within the Blaine city limits. I also helped start and supervise the Blaine POR unit, consisting of six officers. Lastly, the unit is a mostly unsupervised with the intent being that it is proactive, face-paced, and productive.

The Retail Unit is mostly focused in the area of Northtown Mall, with the main focus being preventing and interdicting retail crimes. As part of the unit, I often worked alone and responded to in-progress crimes in the area. I worked closely with the public and the mall employees, remaining courteous and calm while defusing tense situations. Based on my prior experience and work ethic, I was allowed to work my own retail investigations. I used numerous intelligence resources to solve my investigations. I also planned and ran a Retail Enforcement Operation involving four different departments and 15 officers. The operation was a success, yielding 16 arrests in one eight hour detail.

As the DWI Enforcement Officer, I handled most DWI investigations within the city. I proactively conducted traffic enforcement, looking for impaired drivers. I became a local expert within the department, often assisting young/newer officers with their own DWI investigations. I was certified as a Drug Recognition Evaluator and helped teach classes on the subject. Both years as the DWI Enforcement Officer, I was awarded a DWI All-Star award. On top of DWI enforcement, I worked diligently on traffic/criminal interdiction. I utilized lessons and trainings to seek out drugs, stolen vehicles, guns, and wanted persons. I was the leading officer in the department for all self-initiated arrests both years.

As a night shift patrol officer, I answered calls for service within the city limits. I also conducted self-initiated work related to traffic/pedestrian stops, business checks, and warrant attempts. I was routinely regarded as a high performing officer with numerous arrests and investigations generated. I worked with my shift on high priority calls to ensure the best outcome possible. On tense calls for service, I was often asked to speak with suspects due to my calm demeanor and investigative knowledge.

As a patrol officer, I answered calls for service within the city limits. I also conducted self-initiated work related to traffic/pedestrian stops, business checks, and warrant attempts. The unique aspect of Mankato PD was that patrol officers worked their own investigations. It was a routine practice to fully investigate criminal sexual conduct cases, robberies, burglaries, assaults, thefts, etc. I routinely interviewed suspects, victims, and witnesses as well as collected evidence.

As an Infantry Team Leader (Sergeant), I supervised several soldiers and trained them on emergency preparedness, tactical planning and execution, and readiness. In 2011, I deployed to Kuwait/Iraq and was tasked with providing convoy security for contractors during the drawn down in Iraq. After US forces exited Iraq, I was assigned to a personal security element, tasked with providing security for high ranking personnel and dignitaries.
