My name is Jake Tootle I am 18 years old I have grew up on our family cattle ranch and have been helping take care of it since I could walk. This past year I have got my own property that I am leasing I have 32 head of cows over there raising calves, that place is almost 250 acres and it is all my responsibility along with the cattle. My Grandpa (Pawpaw) used to be a lineman for OUC and put in many many years with them and as he had also been around cattle and horses all his life to. That's where I get the want to, to be a lineman.
I have worked and helped my dad on our family ranch since I was about 6 or 7, its a never ending job there is always something to be doing cause when you have cattle thing are gonna happen such as them getting put, the fence being tore up cars running thru the fence and you gotta fix it immediately because that cant wait. if a cow where to get put and a a car hit it and hurt the person driving. For the past several years its not been just my dads responsibility its been mine meaning I have had to build new fence or patching the old by myself no help and if something happens its on me. Taking care of the cattle is a big thing to such as making sure they have all the mineral, feed, grass, hay, water they need and when it comes that time to make sure they all get de-wormed and get vaccinated. I've Day worked a lot for the past couple years going to different ranch's to pen and work their cows or build fence. I have also done tractor work such as plowing and planting grass, and baling hay.
