  • Weighed rail cars going in and off site.
  • Sorted cars when Union Pacific would bring in new cars.
  • Worked with shipping and provided rail cars to be loaded with finish product.
  • Worked with scrap loaders and providing scrap to 21 bay and the truck dump.
  • Learned how to operate the locomotive and rail crane.
  • Helped push the Kubota and go away from riding on rail cars. To help with this change that involved on making better trails to get to switches and putting in panels to cross tracks safely.

  • Served as a safety committee member for two years.
  • Sat in on focus's groups to better help improving the safety within the Melt Shop and Roll Mills.
  • Help conducting audits looking for hazards and home made tools.
  • Pushed for a walking path be put in place going to the Furnace Deck. Goal was to be pro acting and prevent near misses with low visibly and having a good walking path preventing trips and slips.

  • Assisted on Runner and Tap hole maintenance.

  • Learned the roles of the Furnace deck and was able to fill in when needed.
  • Learned the rolls of a Ladleman Helper. Able to do plate changes, helped clean out nozzles when it was put back on the wall. Safely able to hook up the crane before the chair was in place down by the slag pit.
  • Filled in at the torches and learned the duties as a Torchman. Able to go down to assist cutting billets while torch's were down.
  • Able to fill in at the stocker pulpit when needed. Spent close to 6 months filling in for Mike Allen. In that time I was also working along side with the roll mill feeding the reheat furnace.
