There is a large variety of carpenters, at this job, we were trimmers. We would install doors, trim around the door, base trim around the house as well. We would also install cabinets, vanities, and accessories around the house as well including mirrors and bath bars. We would work with the homeowners and buyers to ensure quality to their liking. This is a very difficult line of work the in construction industry. There are many different situations where you are forced to problem solve on a daily basis, and push through long work days. You also had to be very aware of your surroundings and make smart decisions when working inside of homes.
As the head supervisor of the gutter installation crews, I would help install and watch over the installation at hand. Leading the way with any questions or concerns and having the first interactions with the homeowners, addressing any concerns they may have had. With this, I would lead the men on my crew to push through difficult tasks and complete the jobs. This was a great opportunity to work with many different people and be in a position to lead them.
I would be working with tourists constantly as they would walk around and have questions about the animals. It was a great opportunity to be able to work with animals, children, and people. You were able to have conversations with people from all around the United States visiting the area. While in this position I wasn't in as much of a leader role, there was a lot of self motivation that was needed. Many employee's had to clean pens and were by themselves for extended periods of times, making it a good opportunity to become self motivated from a young age.
Leader I have been in positions throughout life to show my leadership skills off I have been a captain on the football team, and a leader in my position group I played for over 5 years at the collegiate level and have a desire to coach later on in life I have also been on mission trips with my church to Tijuana Mexico 3 times, to work with people, build houses, and spread the name of Jesus in the process These were great opportunities to be able to display leadership I have also done public speaking events in my hometown of Rapid City for the Make-A-Wish foundation, at my church, and at the ELCA youth gathering in Houston Texas in 2018
Team orientated I have been an athlete from a very young age, playing in many different sports throughout high school and college I would make sacrifices to put the team first and working as hard as possible to contribute to the team's success
Reliable I have worked in different lines of work that require a hard working mentality They need people who they are able to call on there best and worst days and I believe I am one of those people As a Cancer Survivor, I try to not take any day for granted Showing up on time, dressed appropriately and ready to learn and work hard is the standard
Disciplined Having to get up early for workouts in the morning throughout the year can be difficult for some Pushing through adversity and excuses is something I look forward to I have been tested through and through and have the ability to work through even when motivation runs out I also have a very strong background in my Faith, as a Christian, I am not easily manipulated and am grounded by my faith I love being able to have sympathy and understanding for those without losing my confidence and strength through Christ
Problem-solving Having the ability to stay calm and level headed in high pressure situations is something I have trained in for years In football you have to be able to stay focused on your small details in big moments, that is what you train year round for Having worked in construction as well, you are not able to walk around holding hands, you have to be able to solve problems on your own and prove that you are able to hold your own
Attention to detail Showing that you care about the little things is very important, because many choose to skip them to take an easier route I am very specific in the way that, lets address the small issues and complications to keep them small Having the ability to recognize and take care of small issues is an area in which I will proudly say I thrive in Being a supervisor for some time, I could not just skip over these I was in a position where I was the one in charge of finding the small mistakes and correcting them
