My personality brings you the ability to work well with others. I am willing to listen to experience and adapt to be of more value to my employer. My focus is to be the best version of myself to serve my employer to the best of my ability. I like to learn new things to be able to do my work more efficient. I’m loyal to the persons I’m working with. And love to help people in need. My best assets for employment are my ability to work unsupervised, my background in transportation, crop farming and my lifetime experience with livestock. Also, operating modern farm equipment, and monitoring systems will be a benefit to my future employer.
**Farm Management Overview: South Africa**
After graduating high school in 2015, I began my journey in 2016 on a Bonsmara stud cattle farm, managing a herd of 400 cow/calf operations. Till the end of 2021.
In my role managing day-to-day operations on the 3000-acre farm, I oversaw various aspects that ensured the well-being of the livestock, particularly with the momma cows. This included feeding, grazing, monitoring the health of the animals, and maintaining fencing.
As a ranch hand, my responsibilities included building and constructing new fences, managing cattle, sorting them, ID-tagging, and branding. We also produced hay for the cattle during winter.
Collaboration with the owner was key, as we planned operations together to improve efficiency and reduce costs. There, I helped select the top bull calves, which were raised on non-GMO finisher feed specifically for production auctions. The remaining weaned calves were marketed and sold at the local auction house.
Additionally, I helped managed an intensive sheep ewe operation with 200 Dohne Merino ewes. We ensured that the fleece was sheared every eight months, and we raised lambs to an average live weight of 80 pounds for direct sales to the public.
Our lambing system was designed for efficiency, allowing 40 ewes to give birth within a 10-day time frame. We synchronized the ewes before introducing the rams, which occurred after 14 days. This structured approach greatly contributed to the success of the flock.
Overall, my experiences have fostered a deep commitment to the farming industry, and I look forward to continuing my journey in this field.
But my passion for sheep and cattle farming remains strong, even though I do not have the same affinity for a feedlot.
She has made the difficult decision to sell for personal reasons. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to work there. I genuinely understand and respect her choice, even though it’s a challenging situation for all of us.
