Though I knew I wanted to deal with the human body, I wasn't sure if I wanted to pursue a career as a veterinarian. My high school internship with a veterinarian inspired me to study human anatomy and physiology in greater depth. I attended Gwinnett College to study massage therapy and learn more about the career opportunities in this field. Standard bodywork techniques and therapeutic ethics were covered. I've also done a lot of research into the human body and how it works. Everything from the respiratory to the musculoskeletal systems, I learned how they work and the diseases and abnormalities that can affect them. The primary muscles, bones, and other skeletal landmarks are now easily recognizable to me. I studied Swedish massage techniques and anatomy, focusing on the shoulder and arm. A lot about keeping myself and my clients safe as a practitioner was also taught to me. In my training, I learned how to create a therapeutic environment focused on the needs of individual clients and maintain accurate records of those sessions. Massage safety for both the practitioner and the recipient was also discussed.
