TThe Transportation Management Center (TMC) operated as a collaborative effort between the NYS Department of Transportation (DoT) and the NYSP Communications Section. Our scope of responsibility included monitoring NYSP and local fire and EMS radio transmissions, receiving inquiries via telephone regarding road closures and conditions, and disseminating pertinent information through various channels such as variable message boards, Ny-Alert, and 511. Additionally, we were tasked with dispatching NYS DoT residents (maintenance centers) to address a spectrum of road conditions including snow, ice, downed trees, and road closures. In the capacity of dispatchers, we facilitated the deployment of NYS DoT Help Trucks on the interstate. In the event of a complete shutdown of a state roadway, we promptly alerted the regional director, the state information coordination center, local news outlets, and emergency services through telephone, email, Ny-Alert, and 511.
