My high school years were devoted to pursuing my passion for the field of mechanics, as well as developing a strong character and work ethic. I achieved this through not only my rigorous academic classes, but also through hands on learning and apprenticeships. At age 15, I learned the principle of hard work by working part time delivering mattresses for my family's business and volunteering in my community. At age 16, I had saved enough money to purchase my own car. Teaching myself to work on my own car is where my passion for mechanics began to grow. I consequently began apprenticing at a local autobody shop which specialized in restoring classic cars. Upon graduating high school I decided to expand upon my skills in the automotive industry and learn to build ships for the United States Navy! I accomplished this by taking a course in shipfitting at AIDT. I excelled in my coursework. As a result, Austal USA hired me as an apprentice before I finished my course at AIDT. It was through my classroom work at Austal, where I discovered my aptitude and interest in the field of mechanical engineering.
