Work History

Senior Data Architect

PayQuicker LLC
08.2018 - Current

Primary engineer of PayQuicker's Enterprise Transactional database running in Azure SQL. This database is responsible for handling over 500,000 active users across 135 countries processing roughly $40 million in bank and card transactions daily while maintaining 100% uptime and SOC compliance.

Day to day responsibilities:

  • Engage with company leadership to scope out business requirements, define development priorities and track progress of ongoing deliverables to ensure company is able to meet it's goals.
  • Work directly with company C-Suite to generate and deliver business performance reports and other valuable metrics critical to making accurate business decisions.
  • Work directly with software engineers to define, develop and deploy database code additions or modifications to ensure they can meet their deadlines.
  • Contribute to and align with company's high-level, strategic goals and be able to translate these objectives into tactical database-level deliverables.
  • Design, develop, test and deploy all schema changes and additions needed to enterprise data architecture while maintaining data integrity and efficiency.
  • Ensure SOC compliance.
  • Continually seek new ways to reduce operational costs by automating manual processes and improving overall data management efficiency.
  • Deliver results under tight deadlines, consistently prioritizing tasks effectively while still accurately and efficiently reaching project goals.
  • Resolve critical production issues under tight deadlines, minimizing negative impacts on end-users. Identify and report root-causes and implement fixes to prevent future issues.
  • Constantly monitor database performance and make use of appropriate indexing and SQL development strategies to enhance database performance and ensure smooth user experience.
  • Identify and re-write any poorly performing or inaccurate SQL code.
  • Design, develop and maintain Data Warehouse and PowerBI reporting solution to allow all departments to quickly and accurately retrieve data needed to perform their tasks.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and tools to identify opportunities for enhancing existing systems.

Accomplishments:

  • Took total ownership of the Enterprise Database from PayQuicker's CTO allowing him to focus on project prioritization and company growth.
  • Overhauled global database performance by re-writing poorly written views, functions and procedures. Also implemented a better indexing strategy by consolidating overlapping indexes and creating or dropping indexes as needed. This resulted in reduction in database compute utilization from an average of over 50% hourly to under 10% hourly. This has saved the company thousands in database hosting costs.
  • Identified all manual processes being executed against the database and implemented automated solutions. This has saved hundreds of working hours required of various developers every month, freeing them up to focus on their priorities.
  • Located deficiency is existing manual fee collection code that was causing certain fees to go uncollected. Correcting this deficiency allowed PayQuicker to collect roughly $250,000 in unrealized revenue for the month.
  • Designed corporate reporting solution from end to end which included requirements gathering from company stakeholders, design and development of Data Warehouse, implementation of ETL processes and deployment of PowerBI. This has saved countless hours in manual data retrieval and has become a key part of company growth.
