• Performs all the functions of a telecommunicator.
• Conducts staff development and training, including coaching, mentoring, and evaluating.
• Ensures proper training of subordinates.
• Activates emergency support systems for continuity of operation to maintain various communication systems.
• Completes inspections and observations to ensure adherence to policies.
• Maintains discipline.
• Prepares and maintains reports and files.
Ensures a responsive communications flow between sections, divisions, or departments.
• Conducts meetings as needed.
Relays pertinent data, direction, and messages via radio and telephone to field personnel and administrative members.
• Directs resources during major or mass casualty incidents.
• Fulfills requests for support services.
• Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
• Must adhere to federal, state, county, and local ordinances.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Performs all functions of a telecommunicator.
• Performs the duties of a Telecommunicator Supervisor in the absence of one, and as assigned, excluding disciplinary actions.
• Assists in supervising public safety telecommunication employees.
• Provides training to subordinate personnel.
• Monitors employees on various phases of communication operations.
• Assists and instructs subordinates on unusual or exigent calls.
• Assigns daily workstations and duties, as needed.
Reviews work to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with work standards.
• Explains and interprets general and special orders.
• Reviews the work and appearance of subordinates through inspections and observations.
• Makes oral and written reports on a periodic basis.
Ensures a responsive communications flow between other sections, divisions, and departments to achieve the objectives of the public safety department.
May be assigned to other county locations based on operational needs.
• Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
• Must adhere to federal, state, county, and local ordinances.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Provides training on the various functions within Communications, as assigned.
• Motivates, trains, evaluates, and counsels entry-level telecommunicators.
• Completes observation reports to document trainees’ progress; effectively and objectively evaluates behavior, and communicates progress to trainees and program managers.
Regularly assists with training employees who are not normally assigned due to staffing needs.
Stays up to date on relevant information to maintain skills and knowledge.
• Works with the VSO Communications Training team, supervisors, and other CTOs to provide consistent, effective training.
Always portray a positive image of the Volusia Sheriff’s Office and Communications.
• Performs all duties related to this function in a timely and effective manner.
Eligibility to remain in the special assignment role is contingent upon the continued ability to meet the above criteria.
