I spent a large portion of my last two years of high school tutoring students and assisting teachers. I built strong interpersonal and problem solving skills, while also getting better at understanding the specific, diverse needs of individuals. I have advanced skills in math, writing, and technology, and can communicate them well with other people to offer help and collaboration.
In my senior year, I served as a teacher assistant and tutor for French 1, French 2, and AP European History. In these roles, I communicated with students on a person-to-person basis, offering my expertise and support while always prioritizing respect and open communication. I believe in a very personal, collaborative approach to tutoring, with a balanced dynamic that allows for comfortable interaction. I mostly provided support for writing, offering my experience and skill to guide students in the right direction, not just with their specific work, but with their own personal skills that they can carry further.
In my last three years at FGHS, I served on both the Counseling Advisory Council and the Athletic Leadership Council.
In the first role, I was a trusted voice of my school's counselors, meeting with them to assess and understand data regarding the student body. I offered my personal interpretations and feedback on how to improve the counselor-student relationship to maximize student engagement and success.
In the second role, as an experienced member of my tennis team, I joined high ranking members of other teams at the school to meet with our athletic director once a week. We discussed qualities of leadership and responsibility, held exercises in team-building, and worked to understand ways we could improve the interpersonal dynamics of our respective teams.
