Tested for a contractors license and started my own company. Was in business for 11 years in California until we moved the family back to Pennsylvania in 2000.
Hired in at one Pittsburgh based company for 6 years and then was contracted by a company to start and make profitable and commercial glass and glazing department. After successfully meeting that agreement in one year I hired in at River City Glass Company until I retired.
Reviewed bid requests and selected appropriate projects to procure necessary architectural drawings and specifications to submit a complete and qualified estimate, meeting the required bid date of the General Contractors on the bid list.
Maintained project bid folder on server with all addendum and clarifications of revised drawings and specifications that affected my scope of work. Consistent communication with the general contractor estimators to confer on the correct scope of work expected to be in my estimate. Created accurate RFI requests sent to the General Contractors/Architects to clarify any and all errors on the drawings that are not clear or will cause confusion.
Negotiated and signed all contracts for awarded projects. Submitted shop drawings and technical information for approvals from the project architect.
Past projects along directly to owner of the company to for site management. Did take offs of materials needed and ordered from selected vendors and tracked lead times.
Estimated approximately 15 to 18 million dollars of work per year with the average project cost of approximately $ 50,000 to 75,000.
After 45 years in my chosen profession at age 65yrs I decided to retire.
