South Tulsa Community House is a non-profit organization providing assistance to people living in a high-density poverty area in south Tulsa. They have a budget of approximately $1M and provide pantry, health, legal, computer lab and a variety of other services to the community. As Director of Operations, I was responsible for:

  • the maintenance of the building, grounds, and equipment;
  • staffing and volunteers;
  • scheduling of services and programs;
  • pantry operations;
  • accounts payable and receivable;
  • budget.

Accomplishments include:

  • redesigning operations during the pandemic so that staff and customers remained safe;
  • managing the abundance of donations we received;
  • spending nearly $300K in additional funds for improvements to the building and operations in order to provide a safe and healthy environment for staff and clients;
  • organizing and distributing Covid vaccines to over 100 clients.k;

Systems Support, Architect

  • Provided application and system support of various systems on both Windows and Unix servers
  • Primary focus was on a system that managed approximately 250 inbound/outbound file secure file transfer relationships with a variety of companies.
  • Experience and knowledge of concepts like load balancing, automated failover, proxy servers, firewalls, SAN, etc. played a key role.
  • The majority of the transfers utilized PGP-encryption and SFTP over SSH.
  • Major accomplishments included:
  • Building and maintaining a separate QA/test server to be used by the back-end systems for their test files with vendors;
  • Transitioning approximately 100 partners from a fairly open Unix DMZ FTP server to a locked down Windows server utilizing the software package known as GlobalScape;
  • Server redesign to allow for automatic failover;
  • Single-handedly managing and prioritizing requests from over 250 different customers, both internal and external to the company.

  • Supported, maintained, upgraded and enhanced an electronic commerce infrastructure system exchanging natural gas-related data via batch methodologies in a real-time environment with a focus on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requirements
  • The data exchanged was in EDI, XML and text formats; utilizing PGP and GPG encryption tools, HTTP, FTP, and VAN data transfer tools; processing on MVS, UNIX and Microsoft NT platforms
  • Programming languages employed were korn-shell scripting, awk, C, HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, COBOL, PL/I and JCL
  • EDI Translation tools included Gentran: Basic (for mainframe) and Gentran: Server (for UNIX)
  • Major accomplishments included:
  • Saving $100,000 and an additional 90 days of programming time by engineering a shortcut utilizing a variety of existing data flows;
  • Recipient of the Williams Customer Service award (second-highest award) for efforts involved in reducing transaction processing time from 17 minutes to three minutes and in reducing our system problem-detection time from approximately three hours to 15 minutes;
  • Affected a better relationship with our internal customers by initiating a series of classroom-type training sessions, demonstrating the benefits available to them.

  • It included both batch and online programs written in IDEAL, COBOL and JCL; running in an MVS environment; utilizing FTP, NDM and XCOM data transfer tools
  • Major accomplishments include:
  • Redesigned a daily batch process and coordinated the rewrite and implementation
  • Final results reduced processing time from 14 hours to three hours, allowed for more flexibility and the ability to double the amount of data with no significant impact
  • Documented the business requirements of the system to allow for a conversion to a UNIX-based platform.
