In the following, I will describe my role as a special victims detective:

A special victims detective is a highly trained law enforcement professional who is responsible for investigating crimes that involve victims who have been subjected to abuse, violence, or other types of trauma.

These detectives specialize in working with vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities, who may be more likely to experience victimization.

The specific job duties of a special victims detective in general: they are responsible for conducting investigations, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses and suspects, and making arrests when necessary. Some common types of cases that special victims detectives may work on include:

• Sexual assault: Detectives who specialize in this area investigate cases of rape, sexual assault, and other forms of sexual violence. They may work closely with medical professionals, victim advocates, and forensic specialists to gather evidence and build a case against the perpetrator.
• Child abuse: Special victims detectives who focus on child abuse cases may investigate allegations of physical abuse, neglect, or sexual abuse involving minors. They may work closely with child protective services agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of the child.
• Domestic violence: Detectives who specialize in domestic violence cases investigate allegations of abuse between intimate partners, including spouses, former spouses, and dating partners. They may work with victim advocates to provide resources and support to survivors of domestic violence.
• Elder abuse: Special victims detectives who focus on elder abuse cases investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation involving older adults. They may work with social services agencies and legal professionals to ensure that the victim is protected and the perpetrator is held accountable.

To be successful in this role, a special victims detective must have excellent communication skills, be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds, and be able to handle sensitive information with discretion. They must also have a strong understanding of criminal law and investigative techniques, as well as the ability to work well under pressure.

In addition to investigating crimes, special victims detectives also work closely with prosecutors to prepare cases for trial and provide expert testimony in court.

• Deterring crime through visible patrols
• Reporting suspicious behavior to proper authorities
• Assisting visitors, residents and workers with maps, directions and information on where to go, what to see and how to get there
• Discouraging aggressive panhandling and other quality of life crimes
• Offering free Safe Walks to Downtown residents, workers and visitors

• Hours worked: 40 hours a week
• Hourly wage: $14 dollars an hour

• Administrative duty
• Police Headquarters Assignment: Driving police officers and police recruits to desired location
• Barricaded streets within the city for events
• Operated military high water vehicles for hurricane season
• Transported department equipment to other districts
• Hours worked: 40 hours a week
• Hourly wage: $10 dollars an hour

• Secure and walk through all stores of the mall
• Address any suspicious behavior
• Assist the elderly to their vehicles if needed
• Find missing persons within the river walk property
• Validate parking tickets
• Hours work: 40 hours a week
• Hourly wage $10 dollars an hour

• Deliver store products
• Mop the floors
• Take out all trash
• Hours worked: Between 20 and 40 hours a week
• Hourly wage: $7.25 dollars an hour

• Assemble all store merchandise
• Fix broken store merchandise
• Go to customers house to assemble and/or fix merchandise
• Deliver store merchandise
• Unload heavy equipment and store merchandise off of truck
• Hours worked: 40 hours a week
• Hourly wage: $10 dollars an hour

• Transport patients to the desired appointments throughout the hospital
• Pick up and drop off patients to hospital valet
• Clean transporting equipment in thr hospital bed depot
• Transport the deceased to hospital morgue.
