The recognition came from a call where I was part of a team responding to a patient in critical condition who was suffering from a severe stroke. The patient’s condition was deteriorating rapidly, and every second mattered. I assisted in immediate interventions, helped stabilize the patient, and ensured a rapid, coordinated transfer of care to the hospital team. The Orlando Regional Medical Center Stroke Team later recognized me and my crew with a Life-Saving Award for the role we played in that patient’s survival. For me, the award isn’t just about recognition it’s about a reminder of why I do this job. It showed me how important it is to stay calm, trust your training, and work as a team. That call really reinforced my commitment to the fire service and to providing the best care possible on every shift.
