University of California Berkeley BIO EHSC Competition

Participant in a prestigious biomedical engineering competition at the University of California, Berkeley, I collaborated with a team of peers to address a critical challenge in the medical field. Over the course of seven weeks, we engaged in an in-depth exploration of bioengineering solutions, culminating in the design of an innovative approach involving the use of advanced fluorescent nanoparticle probes.

Our project centered on enhancing the functionality of these probes, leveraging their potential in biosensing and bioimaging. The primary goal was to significantly improve the accuracy of these probes, thereby providing surgeons with a more precise and effective tool for the detection of cancerous tissues.

To showcase our findings and design, we meticulously developed a comprehensive poster and prepared a detailed presentation. This presentation was delivered to a discerning panel comprising university professors, graduate students, and industry professionals. Our work not only demonstrated our technical prowess but also our commitment to contributing meaningful advancements in the field of medical bioengineering.

Swing For Support Earthquake Relief Fundraiser

On February 6th, 2023, a catastrophic earthquake of approximately 7.8 magnitude devastated southern and central Turkey, along with northern and western Syria. This calamitous event impacted around 18 million people, tragically claiming the lives of over 60,000 individuals, injuring more than 150,000, displacing millions from their homes, and leaving over 10 million in dire need of immediate aid. The region continued to suffer from severe aftershocks in the weeks following, exacerbating the damage and distress.

In response to this disaster, I spearheaded the organization of a tennis mixer and silent auction within my local community, aiming to provide relief and support to those affected. Through this initiative, we successfully raised $4,000, which was generously donated to the United Nations Crisis Relief. This contribution played a vital role in the UN's efforts, along with its partner organizations, to deliver critical emergency relief. The aid included food, medical supplies, thermal blankets, and other life-saving items, directly addressing the immediate needs of the earthquake-stricken areas.

The funds raised were specifically channeled towards the most urgent life-saving supplies in Syria, utilizing the Syria Humanitarian Fund and the Cross-Border Humanitarian Fund. These mechanisms are recognized as the fastest and most efficient ways to support communities severely impacted by such natural disasters. Our contribution thus ensured timely and effective assistance, demonstrating the power of community engagement in providing humanitarian aid during times of crisis.
