As a lead into my “work experience,” I wanted to give a bit of my professional background and, with that, explain what is not shown in the bullet points. As well, I wanted to express how the majority of my time in Nashville (17 years) was effectively spent with the same co-workers, mentors, and bosses in three different firms. My work experience, once moving to Nashville from Portland, Oregon, after my best friend convinced me to join him as he chased a dream, started with the firm LRK (not shown in Work Experience but began in 2003) and ended with Smith Gee Studio. This is where my work experience picks up on my resume. My reason for telling you this is to show that while in Nashville, I worked for 5 companies (4 of which were architecture firms), and despite that number potentially seeming high, I am in fact loyal. Three of the firms, including the previously mentioned LRK and Smith Gee Studio plus Studio 8 Design, where I worked following graduation from graduate school, were composed of the same mentors and peers up until I joined OHM Advisors in 2019. My time with LRK ended as I decided to get my Master's Degree. Studio 8 Design was a victim of the 2008–09 economic downturn. After LRK unfortunately went bankrupt and shut down the Nashville office, the key leaders from that office started Smith Gee Studio, and I was a part of the building of what is now a very successful midsize firm. I hope this eases any thoughts that I may tend to jump from firm to firm. It is my goal for this job search to be my last!
Cummins Station, Smith Gee Studio, Nashville, TN, 01/2011, 08/2018, Upon becoming the owner of the Cummins Station and Baggage Building, DZL Management sought to transform the 100+ year old structures into the most unique office community in downtown Nashville. As project manager, Jason was the lead architect for all ongoing building renovation projects and have successfully worked with the client to transform the properties into one of downtowns most sought-after office locations. Occupancy has increased to nearly 97% and average rent rates continue to climb in an increasingly competitive office space market. New modern entry lobbies, corridor renovations, restrooms, elevators, art studios and gallery, and a rare urban Community Garden, recognized by AIA Middle Tennessee, AIA Tennessee (state) and the American Society of Landscape Architects, have completely converted Cummins Station's image, attracting some of Nashville's most entrepreneurial companies. Eye-catching exterior tenant signage, modern interior wayfinding, and a proposed 10th Avenue streetscape continue to improve the tenant and visitor experience at Cummins Station.
