Conducts review of court orders relating to commitment. Conducts cross-check of sentencing documents and ensures all appropriate documents are forwarded to the Designation and Sentence Computation Center (DSCC) for the purpose of sentence computation. Ensures proper identification and commitment of offenders delivered to the facility for temporary or permanent confinement.
Prepares necessary paperwork and tickler systems related to the disposition of charges under the Interstate Agreement on Detainer Act.
Conducts regularly scheduled instruction and training classes relating to correctional procedures and techniques and makes appropriate recommendations for training based upon assessments of needs.
Prepares and submits written and verbal reports to appropriate officials relative to institution operations. Assists in planning for needed equipment, repairs and/or replacements.
Frequently recommends to unit teams, changes in individual inmate treatment programs, housing or work assignments. Assists in planning constructive programs for problem inmates in the institution. Investigates and takes decisive action on incident reports, evaluating the circumstances of the report, interviewing inmates concerned and recommending the extent and type of disciplinary action to be taken.
Conducting investigations of inmate violations of BOP prohibited acts of various severity levels, such as assaults, introduction of contraband or narcotics, possession of money or currency, communicating gang affiliation and/or participating in gang activities, and other prohibited activities. Investigations can range in length from several hours to weeks or months depending on severity.
Performs investigative research in the preparation of cases for presentation to the Disciplinary Hearing Officer, Office of Inspections and/or the U.S. Attorney for possible prosecution up to and including possible testimony before the Grand Jury and testimony during criminal trial. The need to maintain confidentiality, accuracy and reliability in all investigations is of the utmost importance.
Completes investigations by interviewing suspects, witnesses, informants; collecting evidence; searching physical and electronic records; carrying out surveillance/monitoring activities and preparing investigation reports.
Research activities include the retrieval, review and processing of visiting information, medical reports, central file documentation, commissary account records, photography, finger prints, court documents and similar items that may be used in support of case preparation.
Maintain advanced computerized database systems and conduct computer searches of information within these databases.
Enforces rules and regulations governing facility security, inmate accountability and inmate conduct to ensure judicial sanctions are carried out and inmates remain in custody.
Searched cells of inmates to identify and confiscate contraband and other prohibited items.
