Job Description Summary

This position, reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, is responsible for the university enterprise voice systems and communications infrastructure. Job Description

This position, reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, is responsible for the university enterprise voice systems and communications infrastructure. The position works as part of the Infrastructure team on the design, implementation, and day-to-day operations of the campus voice, data, and video infrastructure, including construction-related projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

50% Campus Communication Infrastructure Support

  • Supports operations of voice, data, and video communication infrastructure.
  • Monitors the enterprise voice systems quickly identifying problems that occur and resolving them in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assists in the designs, controls, and processes for supporting the delivery of large-scale information technology services.
  • Monitors and analyzes operational metrics and implements continuous improvement methodologies to include corrective actions.
  • Performs technical duties in support of large projects and operations. Serves as a technical resource for other staff members.
  • Recommends and implements system enhancements that will improve security, performance, and reliability.
  • Maintains, establishes, and develops new collaborative working relationships with stakeholders, customers, and vendors.

20% IT Construction Project Management

  • Oversees construction-related projects with IT components.
  • Uses established project management protocols to assist in the planning, budgeting, execution, and successful completion of departmental and university projects.
  • Facilitates the analysis of project needs, risks, and recommends solutions.
  • Interacts and coordinates activities with customers, departments, and contractors.

20% Support and Problem Resolution

  • Works with other departments and end users on telecommunications moves, adds, and changes.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains university cabling infrastructure.
  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots third-party telecommunications applications and appliances.
  • Assists with the installations or upgrades of campus voice endpoints, and works with other members of IT and/or the campus to provide telephone services.
  • Serves as lead on service tickets allocating service requests to the appropriate team members.

10% Other

  • May require availability to work some nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Knowledge of intermediate troubleshooting, client relations, ingenuity, formulating and contributing ideas, general knowledge of structured cabling, and VoIP systems.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) certifications
  • Experience with Cisco Voice administration.
  • Experience with Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Unified Contact Center Express, Unity Connection, Unified Presence Server, Jabber, and Finesse.
  • Experience with cable testing equipment.
