J. Russell Kent Award

In 2014 I was honored to receive the J. Russell Kent Award from the San Mateo County School Board for my Pencil Box News program. This award is given to innovative and outstanding classroom programs. Pencil Box News is a video production class that provides students with the opportunity to learn what it takes to produce a news broadcast, Students learn how to gather and verify news stories, write news articles for broadcast, direct, video, and broadcast. Students get the feel of a real sound station as they sit in front of a green screen, with microphones, lighting, scrolling cue cards and cameras.
