Travel Experience

I have done a lot of traveling at a young age with my mother. We moved to Kenya for six months when I was five and volunteered at Daraja School for Girls, a school for some of Kenya's most disadvantaged girls. When I was six, we traveled to Vietnam for an extended stay with our Vietnamese friends in their community. Other countries I've visited include the UK, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Canada. By experiencing these different cultures, I've learned that not everyone has the same things that I do and I've been able to expand my societal views.

References

  • Adam Chadbourne, former alpine director of SSWSC, Jayna stands out amongst her peers in athletic aptitude, skiing skill, and most importantly grit and determination to excel in alpine ski racing in the long term. She is an exuberant young woman with a ton of positive energy. Jayna is a natural leader, and both as the director of this team, and the parent of young girls on the team, I have felt Jayna's infectious enthusiasm and determination shape her surroundings in meaningful ways. Not only does Jayna have a lot of potential, she is driven and committed.
  • Elena Maddox, former English teacher, Jayna works well with other students and is willing to take on a leadership role when asked. She is friendly and kind to her fellow classmates and always respectful to adults in the building. She is willing to take a risk academically, so I imagine her abilities will shine in a more athletic avenue as well. Jayna has a great attitude, and also knows how to have fun with her classmates and teachers.
  • Ms. Mei and Ms. Casey, community service leaders at Holderness, Jayna did a good job in Project Outreach this year. She got along well with the team and felt comfortable expressing herself. She got to know more about her peers and made some good friends. Jayna always worked with others and tried to get work done in terms of doing service. One day, we went to Prescott Farm to build a fence for the outdoor playground for preschool kids. Jayna loved talking and playing with the little ones which made their day! This program was an excellent opportunity for Jayna to learn how she can take the initiative and be a leader amongst her peers.
