See job details below. I started out with KJS Construction and took a break to be a full-time caregiver to my father-in-law who was in his advanced stages of dementia. I eventually went back to KJS Construction as well as other as-needed construction jobs. I resumed some of the job duties described below.

Full-time Caregiver to Family Member

Primary 24/7 caregiver to my father-in-law who was diagnosed with aggressive dementia/Alzheimer's disease. Care included:

  • Routine daily activities, such as bathing, dressing and grooming. Assisted with personal hygiene needs including toileting and incontinence care. Monitored activity levels and helped prevent sedentary behavior.
  • Provided companionship and emotional support by engaging in conversation, playing games, reading scriptures, as well as daily excursions such as car rides, exercise/walking in malls, visiting places such as aquarium, zoo and other "tourist" places. Developed a meaningful relationship through active listening and empathy and most importantly trust.
  • Accompany to medical appointments, organized and administered medications according to directions.
  • Prepared nutritious meals and assisted in feeding.
  • Maintained a clean and safe environment in living area. Performed all housekeeping tasks such as laundry, vacuuming, dusting, and changing bed linens.
  • Collaborated with healthcare professionals to ensure proper care was being provided.
  • Trained to assist in comfort care with hospice provider. From beginning to end, learned how to care for a dementia patient which included redirecting, attentive listening and conversing.

  • Assisted in the preparation of construction sites by clearing debris and leveling ground. Operated heavy machinery to excavate, move and grade earth for foundations, trenches and roads. Used picks and shovels to dig, spread and level dirt and gravel. Built and disassembled scaffolds, bracing and barricades to assist in vertical construction activities. Erected steel framework for buildings using welding equipment. Built temporary supports during construction processes such as shoring up beams or columns until they are set in place permanently.
