While construction and nursing appear different on the surface, they share a core foundation of carrying out high risk, detail oriented work while safety is crucial. On the job site, I learned to think critically when a task didn’t go according to plan, a skill directly transferable to caring for a patient with a changing condition. Also, collaborating with different trades (plumber, electricians etc) allowed me to practice good communication and learn new skills frequently. In nursing I can implement these skills to work well within an interdisciplinary team to achieve a common goal. I am ready to bring this operational resilience, spatial awareness, and dedication to safety into my nursing practice.
