Even in the small Village of Mukwonago, we ran over 1100 fire and EMS calls per year. I was EMS Lieutenant for 3 years. The year I was elected EMT of the year by Department members, I ran 396 calls - in addition to working full-time, and continuing education as Basic Trauma Life Support instructor through the program at Froedtert Hospital. I flew with Flight for Life twice as a "helper" which was an incredible experience. I was a CPR instructor for 15 years and taught CPR and CPR recertification for the fire department as well as at We Energies. I have held people with fatal injuries. I have consoled parents of teenagers who did not survive accidents. I have questioned whether I did "enough" when nothing else could have been done. I assisted the mothers in delivering 2 baby girls in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Sadly, neither beautiful, healthy baby was named after me!
