Work History

Utilization Review Specialist

Mercy Hospital Jefferson
10.2006 - Current

I started working for Mercy, formerly Jefferson Regional, formerly Jefferson Memorial in 2006 for Home Health as an Admin Asst, and quickly moved into the Admin Asst/Scheduler for Private Duty. I stayed there until 2011 and left for 4 months then came back to Admitting/Patient Access. In that position I would schedule patients for tests, I would cover the front desk for patient check-in, and cover the ER front desk. When Mercy started in 2013 I was asked to do all Chart Audits for inpatient, Behavioral Health and ER patients. In Dec 2016 Home Health reached out to me to see if I would come back to be the UR Specialist for them. I have a special place in my heart for Home Health and Hospice, so I transferred back to Home Health.

I am Responsible for Benefits, Eligibility and Auth for Home Health patients, along with Re-Auth when needed. I am a patient advocate making sure I can get Auth and enough visits for our Nursing, Therapist and HHA to see our patients. I work multiple Work Queues to ensure there are no mistakes for Auth, or missing Reg items and our NOA to Medicare. I work on Pending Auth daily with contact to Insurance companies if I have not received the Auth in a timely matter. Our schedule can change day to day, there are days when I am working on 10-12 Auth per day. Our disciplines rely on me to keep them informed on how many visits they have and the time frame of the Auth, along with home many visits a patient has used for the year if they have a limit. When the Hospice Biller is on PTO I will cover her WQ's and get Auth for Hospice. When the UR Specialist at Mercy South is on PTO it is my responsibility to cover for her, so I will Work Jefferson and South. Original Auth, Re-auth, Clinicals, reaching out to insurance companies, visit amounts and days are my responsibility. Making sure our Home Health patients get the care they need and do not have to worry about getting a bill is my goal.
