Work History

Limited/ Full Time Sr. Food Service Worker

UC Merced
Merced, USA
09.2023 - Current
  • Becoming a Limited Sr. Food Service Worker at the DC, and continuing to be promoted to a full-time Sr. foods worker at the pavilion, has been one of the greatest experiences in the food industry. I have learned so much from my peers, my mentors, and even the students I would be in charge of.
  • My job entailed working alongside my coworkers and being in charge of the salad bar, deli station, and yogurt bar when I was still at the DC. I prepare the vegetables, washed, peeled, and cut fruits, lettuce, and deli meat to prepare for cooking and serving. I was in charge of the preparation, presentation, and putting the salad bar on the line.
  • Organized and labeled food items in refrigerator or freezer storage areas. All while, prevented spoilage and cross-contamination by storing food in designated containers and storage areas. Stocked refrigerators with necessary ingredients for the upcoming shift.
  • Organized and labeled food items in refrigerator or freezer storage areas. Swept floors and cleaned walk-in refrigerators of my sections and storage areas to maintain a hygienic, sanitized work area. Checked temperature of appliances and food items regularly.
  • Observed food safety and sanitation protocols to reduce germ spread, especially when it came to constantly replenishing ingredients and items with the large amount of students the pavilion has, while maintaining high standards of customer service during high-volume work shifts and fast-paced operations hours of my shift.
  • Offer guidance to the students played a huge role in my leadership and mentorship on how to efficiently run the salad and deli stations. Assisting the students with knowledge about preparations and ensuring food safety and sanitation standards were met during all meal services. Trained new employees on job responsibilities associated with Senior Food Service Worker position.
  • My position didn't ostracize me from the kitchen. I was always part of helping in the kitchen, doing whatever they needed of me, whether that was prepping for the cooks, helping the chef with a station, or anything else. I would be part of the kitchen, and I loved it.
  • A new opportunity, which I was grateful to experience and persevere, was to have free range with safety regulations from allergens included. I had fun experimenting with new things to incorporate at my station. My set of work skills and leadership to execute this is something that sets me apart as a worker.
  • I was part of making a variety of new options to give out to the students, in which they genuinely enjoyed and even requested these new forms of desserts, new creations, and refreshments to become a norm.
  • I believe that I brought a new sense of sweetness into my station with the help of my coworkers. Our ideas, our leadership, and our ability to execute this new form of tasks, all while continuing and efficiently not straying from our responsibilities, just for the pleasure of making students enjoy what is being offered to them, and the satisfaction of being able to give more than what is required of me, is a privilege.
  • Apart from going above and beyond what isn't required of me. I always ensured that food safety, especially the allergens, which is the top priority at the pavilion facility, and sanitation standards were met during all meal services, especially when new items were put out on the line. Informing my superiors and getting the green light to be able to do this for students was always a priority. Cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and surfaces as well.
  • Labeling the allergens and assisting students in properly being aware of the importance of labeling allergens in everything we put on the line is a daily responsibility that I excel in.
  • Performed cashier duties, when necessary, such as taking payments from customers, when I was working at the DC. Resolved customer complaints related to their dining experience in a professional manner.
