From 1989 to 2003, I held various positions, all in the Fiscal Department. I initially started out in a float position, working between various departments, such as the Cashiers Office, payroll and Special Disbursements. I then went to Special Disbursements full time, where I handled the different hospital accounts and issued checks to departments for patient activities. I then audited the receipts to make sure procedures were being followed and batched them for reimbursement. I then went to Accounts payable, where I paid and processed invoices for payment. I maintained the FMS Inventory database, entering the receipts and issues from stock. Once monthly we reconciled warehouse counts to our database system to ensure accuracy. From there, I went into purchasing and contracts and have been there ever since.
I passed my VCO exam on the first try and at the time, only 10% of the students were able to do that. I always go out of my way to ensure our patients have what they need, even if it means working through lunch, staying over or going to pick something up myself.
