Jeemin Oh

Austin

Summary

Hello! My name is Jeemin, and I'm a 17-year-old high school student in Austin, Texas. I was born and raised in Korea for 11 years before moving to the United States with my family. The first few years were especially challenging—I struggled a lot with the language barrier and adjusting to a new culture. But over time, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, practiced every day, and grew into the person I am today!

I love talking with my friends and family (in both Korean and English—I'm fluent in both!), and I've also studied Spanish for four years. I'm definitely not as fluent in Spanish as some of my classmates, but I always enjoy learning new languages and connecting with others. I also love studying and challenging myself, volunteering, helping others, and most of all—spending time with my dog, Boba :)

My teachers and friends often describe me as someone who's warm, respectful, patient and caring—someone who makes others feel safe, comfortable, and supported. One of the most memorable things my teachers, parents, and friends have said about me is that I 'radiate happiness' in a way no one else can. I can't even express how grateful I am to hear that!! I'm a pretty carefree and optimistic person, but I also take my responsibilities seriously. I work well under pressure, stay calm in complicated situations, and collaborate easily with others.

One of my biggest passions is music! I've been playing violin and guitar for the past eight years. During COVID, I really began to understand how powerful music can be. In some of my loneliest moments, music made me feel loved, understood, and less alone—and that's when I realized I wanted to share that same feeling with others. Since then, I've been volunteering at nursing homes, hospitals, churches—anywhere I can—to share my story and my heart through music!

I'm also an orchestra officer at my school, which has won first place in Texas twice (2023 and this year 2025) the past three years. I truly believe I was chosen not only because of my love for music, but because of my passion, positivity, and commitment to lifting others up. I love making people smile, laugh, and feel supported—especially when they're going through hard times :)

I know this was a long introduction, but there's just so much I could share! Still, if I had to sum it up, I'd say what makes me unique is my combination of empathy, creativity, and resilience. Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know me!
