Advanced to P-4. Current job duties include contractor management, drawing review, and project design signoff. Other duties include parts ordering, and design assistance with engineering. I am also currently involved with the ID1 I&C design, helping Curt Lake with design questions and research. I completed all of the classes required to qualify for the advancement, so I am hoping that puts me in a good position for future job opportunities.

Advanced to a P-3. More time is spent on admin and supervision, and not working with tools in the field. More time is spent on mentoring and leading. More time is spent with engineering and special projects. Doing more QC on new buildings and systems being installed by outside contractors on site.

  • I was hired by Scott Alcorn as an Instrumentation Technician.
  • Responsibilities included doing basic instrumentation work.
  • Added equipment to the DDC system for general HVAC controls.
  • Built control panels per engineering design. The shop later became a UL listed panel shop.
  • Installed VFD control wiring and programmed.
  • Added hardware and wiring to the FMCS PLC system.
  • Used a HART communicator to program all of the "Smart" instrumentation
  • Installed control systems for abatement equipment across site.

Controls Electrician

  • I did my entire electrical apprenticeship while working at Darigold.
  • Performed routine and complex maintenance and repairs on various electrical equipment.
  • Ran conduit and pulled wire to equipment being installed within the plant.
  • Added switchgear to the electrical system as needed. Mostly branch panels and MCC's.
  • Constructed basic control panels for small stand-alone applications.
  • Maintained the PLC system that controlled the plant automation. This included troubleshooting existing hardware, and adding new hardware for expansions.
  • Maintained chart recorders that created legal documents monitored by the USDA. Worked with USDA inspectors to do annual calibrations on equipment that monitored pressure and temperature during the pasteurization process.
  • Repaired broken equipment both electrically and mechanically.
  • Did the calibrations on all of the Rosemount transmitters across site. Including pressure, temperature, and flow.
  • When not busy, we would help the mechanics with rebuilding valves, gear boxes, and some welding.
