Mold Maker / Team Leader / Project Manager

• Assemble and disassemble a variety of molds from simple prototype to complex production tools efficiently.
• Attend kick off meetings to discuss work order concerns and due dates for new builds and engineering changes.
• Teach and mentor a full time apprentice. Also help others who are open to learning more of the trade.
• Machine / Surface Grind to number Inserts, sprues, ejection pins, guide pins, stack ups for hot runners / manifolds, details, repairs and size and fit gibbs for slides. Turn down core pins and sub gate pin details.
• Light lathe work - Turn down lifter rod ends, leads on guide pins, etc.
• Spot lifters, slides, drivers, and cavity to core in a press. Deburr part after spotting. Bench for draw. Vent tool in and out of the press.
• Polish steel and aluminum.
• Master cavity and pockets for spotting.
• Spot two shot and rotary tools.
• Contour ejector pins.
• Time lifters and wear plates for slides.
• Install hot runners / manifolds, drops, tips (heat to temp, contour tips and hand cut in the runners). Calculate stack ups / press. Wire heaters, thermos and plugs for both. Install hot half manifold, heat to temp and contour tips. Set valve gate pins.
• Troubleshoot / repair manifold issues - tip cleaning, heater issues, bad thermos, corroded / damaged wiring, loose wiring, tip freeze.
• Troubleshoot / repair flash on existing running tools (get welded, respot, bench.
• Specialize in matchline/parting line repeatability.
• Troubleshoot / repair ejection problems and damage.
• Water - Map water circuits, install fittings, plugs, baffles, diverters and test for leaks.
• Water manifolds - Map and plumb waterlines for core and cavity manifolds.
• Hydraulics - plumb and test hydraulic function. Wire limit switches and plugs.

• Communicate with customers to understand their vision/design/goals for a custom piece of furniture/art/decor.
• Complete rough sketches for customer vision and approval.
• Design/Plan each project from scratch or to mimic/match a specific feel or design.
• Build pieces using carpentry/woodworking. Cutting welding steel. Aluminum sheet metal cutting, shaping, forming.
• Skilled and efficient with power/hand tools
• Special tool design and fabricating for specialty jobs.
• Material management/cost estimation for each project
• Web page design and management.
