QUALIFICATIONS:
- Officer of the Deck (2017-2021)
Stationed on the quarterdeck, the in-port OOD is the primary representative of the Commanding Officer and ensures the security and routine of the ship.
- Security: Manages the safety of the ship and controls access to the pier/gangway via the Petty Officer of the Watch (POOW).
- Ceremonies: Supervises the rendering of honors, such as colors (raising/lowering the flag) and receiving visitors.
- Weapons Duty Officer (2017-2021)
- Security and Accountability of Ordnance: Maintaining strict security for all weapons, ammunition, and explosives stored on board. This includes managing ammunition stowage, ensuring magazine security, and conducting inventory checks.
- Maintenance of Weapon Systems: Overseeing the maintenance, repair, and calibration of gun mounts, guided missile launching systems, rocket launchers, and small arms.
- Safety and Inspection: Conducting inspections of weapon systems and safety equipment to ensure compliance with naval safety regulations and operational readiness.
- Force Protection Support: Coordinating with the Security Officer and Master-at-Arms to ensure that weapon systems are ready to support Force Protection (FP) and Anti-Terrorism (AT) measures, especially in elevated threat conditions.
- Ordnance Handling: Supervising the safe loading, unloading, and movement of ammunition and explosive devices to and from the ship.
- Command Duty Officer (2014-2017)
- Command Representation: Acts with the authority of the CO/XO after working hours, on weekends, and on holidays.
- Security & Safety Oversight: Conducts rounds (roves) of the command, including barracks and secured areas, to inspect for security breaches, fire hazards, and adherence to safety regulations.
- Emergency Response: Serves as the primary point of contact for any emergencies, mishaps, or security incidents. They are responsible for coordinating with base security, fire departments, and making required reports to higher authority (e.g., reporting Class A mishaps within 8 hours).
- Operational Reporting: Maintains situational awareness of the command's status and ensures the command's logbook is properly maintained.
