I am an aircraft mechanic in the 564 AMXS with primary duties to overhaul and repair KC-135 landing gear and landing gear components. I oversee the kitting area of our shop, ensuring all airplane parts are accounted for and work alongside production controllers to keep track of inventory and keep production controllers informed of what parts and materials need to be ordered. I build kits that are specific to various sections of the shop and make sure my team has what they need to quickly and safely build and install the landing gear. I dismantle landing gear and prepare and package components to be shipped. I install landing gear and landing gear components onto the aircraft. I jack and down jack KC-135 aircraft. I ensure all forms are completed in accordance with Air Force regulation. I operate the hoist during build up of kits and other maintenance. I follow Technical Orders, Air Force Instructions, and local instructions on the course of my work. I inventory and ensure safe storage of hazardous materials when not in use and observe regulations applicable to these chemicals. I follow safety data sheets (AFI 90-821 3.1.1) and wear appropriate protective clothing and PPE when handling chemicals (DAFMAN 91-203 14.4.1). I expertly represent my shop as the Dock Marshall for all Quality Assurance, Safety, Inspector General, and other inspections and monitor various operations to ensure safety and efficiency, implementing corrective action as needed. I execute all monthly inspections, identifying safety or quality problems, making on-the-spot corrections or recommending solutions as necessary. I utilize the five steps of lean practices to ensure my shop is clean, organized, and always inspection ready. As a result, all inspections to include Unit Effectiveness and Inspector General Inspections under my leadership have results in zero findings, demonstrating mission readiness. I am the VSR (Volunteer Safety Representative) for my unit. I work with management, the employees in my unit, Quality Assurance, Safety, Union members, and leaders from various organizations in the interest of ensuring the safety of my area. I sign off on and inspect all fire extinguishers (DAFMAN 91-203 para 6.2.6.8) and eye wash stations regularly and complete a bi-weekly safety audit sheet. I ensure that all AF Form 244's are up-to-date and that the related machinery is safe to operate.
