  • I operated a spinning round knife, also known as fleshing wheel, to shave down and detail animal leather after the skins have been pickled and prior to being tanned. I had to be aware of where the MSDS sheets are located and how to read them. Abide by the hazard communication program and understand the chemical information sheets. Wear cut resistant gloves and safety glasses in production areas at all times and meet performance standards. Sometimes I would be reassigned to other job duties based upon a supervisor's or manager's decision and production goals. In the summer of 2019, I applied for a Finishing position within the company where I'm currently responsible for inspecting the skins and furs for blemishes, cuts, or foreign debris. I apply special oils to the skins and hang them for treatment overnight in the hot room. After the skins are heat treated I help with placing them into a large horizontal tank that spins them to help reduce excess oil. I wear PPE, and follow all safety protocols, communicate with fellow employees and supervisors well. I use mechanical equipment to stretch and soften the skins. I spend many hours working on my feet, performing safe heavy lifting techniques, sometimes working in hot conditions to maintain product integrity while meeting customer satisfaction goals.

Construction/Tree Trimmer

Wonsey Tree Service
Saint Louis, MI
09.2015 - 05.2016
  • I worked where I was needed at multiple jobsites. Started as general laborer helping with tearing down old structures, handling material, clean up and prep work of new jobsites. Occasionally I operated a Hyundai 210LC-7 excavator. In the late fall as construction slowed down, I joined a work crew of fellow employees that were contracted to clear utility lines of trees and vegetation near Ann Arbor, MI. I operated chainsaws, loaded cut vegetation into woodchippers, made sure our work area remained safe and looked out for the safety of the workers and anyone near the work site. We lived together in a rented house during the week, coming home on the weekends. Teamwork and learning to get along with each other was an essential part of our success.
