CMHHIP as a Registered Nurse V – Program Chief Nurse for the Cognitive Behavior Program, Admissions Program and CMHIP Nursing Clinic

• Appointing Authority for the CMHIP Nursing Clinic Cognitive Behavior Program which covers 5 units, 120+ patient beds and 150+ nursing positions.
• Supervise and direct all nursing FTE/staff within a program, chairs and facilitates nursing activities, develops and writes policy, and ensures nursing standards of care are implemented throughout all phases of the nursing process and delivery of services.
• Participates in and prepares nursing personnel for onsite surveys, monitors documentation, and ensures quality of care is rendered according to the Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and the Colorado Department Personnel Rules and Regulations.
• Responsible for the provision of safe, appropriate nursing care on the units by effective deployment of nursing staff resources, coordination and timely statistical reporting of incidents, acuity, QA/PI activities, participation in development, implementation and maintenance of department and hospital policies and standards of care, responsible for education of the nursing staff across the hospital and recruitment/retention of nursing staff across the hospital.
• Collaborates with multiple departments and disciplines to ensure quality of direct care services are coordinated and implemented in interdisciplinary fashion.
• Utilize data and quality assurance tools to identify trends in nursing practice.
• Direct nursing care by disseminating and delegating information along organizational lines; serve as a liaison and advocate representing a designated nursing unit; assess acuity measures; attend unit, division and hospital wide meetings; investigate and evaluate concerns related to nursing care; reviews medication variances and quality improvement monitors.
• Intervene and direct staff in response to critical situations as necessary, which may include physically restraining aggressive, assaultive patients or performing CPR; monitor and evaluate staff performance utilizing performance plans and nursing competencies; recommend corrective or disciplinary action as needed.
• Assure competency and compliance with mandatory education; evaluate training needs; provide just-in-time training; educate nursing staff on the nursing process; ensure infection control practices are followed; monitor mandatory education compliance; maintain education profiles; evaluate nursing competencies; assure orientation of new nursing personnel; assign preceptors and monitor nursing students.
• Maintain clinical knowledge related to provision of evidence based, safe and effective nursing care as it is delivered in a psychiatric setting.

CMHHIP as a Registered Nurse IV – Nurse Manager for the Adolescent Behavioral Treatment Unit

• Administrative management responsibilities by ensuring implementation of and compliance with Nursing Standards of Practice, and that Nursing Standards are upheld and delivered in accordance with CDHS and CMHIP polices and procedures and the Nurse Practice Act, and according to regulatory agencies and Licensing Boards
• Schedule various classifications of nursing staff to ensure standards of practice, patient acuity indicators, and staff licensure mix is optimal to meet unit demands.
• Works with multiple departments and disciplines to ensure quality of direct care services are coordinated and implemented in interdisciplinary fashion.

• Provide direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of treatment. This includes: family involvement, case management, formulation of individualized nursing care plans, implementing infection control measures, delivering crises intervention, providing direct patient contact in individual and group therapy sessions, teaching patients and co-workers, and providing direct care in emergency situations.
• Responsible for approving leave and scheduling, Performance Management Plans/Evaluations (PMP), including progressive discipline; accountable for completion of shift responsibilities; point person for daily operations and decisions in a work setting; assigns nursing staff, coordinates staff orientation, and rearranges and reorganizes unit routines, assists in hiring, participates in promotional examinations and disciplinary recommendations.
• Perform charge nurse duties which include: making assignments and supervising staff.
• Assess, evaluate, document and communicate changes in mental status related to medication effectiveness and adverse reactions.
• Responsible to explain work processes, train, and assign task to Registered Nurse, Psychiatric Care Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse, Mental Health Clinician and/or Client Care Aide.
• Accountable for completion of shift responsibilities; point person for daily operations and decisions in a work setting; assigns nursing staff, coordinates staff orientation, and rearranges and reorganizes unit routines, assists in hiring, participates in promotional examinations and disciplinary recommendations.

CMHHIP as a Registered Nurse II on the Adolescent Behavioral Treatment Unit.

• Perform Performance Management Plan (PMP) evaluations of up to 3 staff.

CMHHIP as a Registered Nurse I in the HSFI building on J-1.

Facilities/grounds assistant in the campus dorms.

• Cleaned rooms, bathrooms, hallways and lobbies in dormitory.
• Worked with a moving crew moving and setting up furniture.
• Worked at the university apartments cleaning, moving residents, and doing light maintenance work.
• Assisted with directing traffic and providing parking and moving information to new students during move in weekend each year.
