Accomplishments

  • In 2015, fundraised and campaigned for Break the Silence Against Domestic Violence founder Kristen Faith to make my hometown in Benson, one of the national stops on the BTS tour. Put together the program, gathered the speakers and materials and collaborated with Someplace Safe, Safe Avenues and Heartland Girls Ranch to do Discussion panels and promotional materials. Spoke at the event giving my own testimonial of my story.
  • In 2018, was nominated to be a part of the Blandin Community Leadership Program
  • In 2018, was approached by Crime Watch Daily and had a short documentary video profile done on my personal story.
  • Also in 2018, hired by the Safe Harbor program in Aberdeen, SD to give a motivational speech along with my testimony of my story.
  • Running my own domestic violence awareness website through facebook groups since 2012 where I share information and have help survivors connect with other fellow survivors, give them information on how to safely get out of an abusive relationship, warning signs on being in an abusive relationship and help them to connect with their local agencies to find the resources that they need.
  • In 2021, was asked to tell my personal history of my experiences with domestic violence on the Steve Wilkos Show and asked to come back in future airings as a DV expert to talk with victims.
  • Achieved two successful fundraisers for my current employment raising over $24,000.

Experience

  • Through my own personal experience with domestic and sexual violence, fully participated in my own journey of working within the system, getting restraining orders, emergency shelter, DV counseling and survivor groups, court hearings, restitution, post conviction advocacy, and have written three victim impact statements. I feel my experience in these regards gives me as unique experience, perspective and empathy for those I work with.
  • In 2014, received the Survivor Award at the Someplace Safe Banquet and had a small write up in the newsletter.
  • In 2015, went to California for a Domestic Violence Healing Retreat through Break The Silence Against Domestic Violence. I gained many skills there and developed a large circle of women in the same situation. I have written pieces for print on their website and forum.
  • In 2015, joined an organization called Women Against the Violence Epidemic. I did a variety of marketing, discussion and fundraising with that organization before they dissipated a few years ago.
  • In 2017, attended another Break the Silence Against Domestic Violence Healing Retreat in Florida.
  • Was a board member of the Benson Chamber of Commerce from 2017-2019 and attended the Blandin Community Leadership Program during this time.
  • In 2019, spoke at the go purple DV event in the Park in Morris for Someplace Safe
  • In 2019 my story was published in a magazine article over seas.
