
A transitioning Service Member seeking a career in health care with learning focused on specialty surgical technician and CNA, training and assisting nurses with patients in a hospital setting. Experienced working with small teams where communication and safety are critical, along with utilizing specialized tools and applying policies and procedures.
● Identify the legal responsibilities of the surgical technologist and other members of the surgical team, including following sterile technique and surgical hand scrub policies.
● Inventory supplies and equipment, prepare supplies, and select appropriate instrumentation for procedures. Ensures cleanliness before and after procedures. After procedures, assist with dressings, room turnover, handling specimens, disposing of hazardous waste, and instrument reprocessing.
● Conduct research for up-to-date surgical technology or procedures that are being investigated in trials.
● Understands the importance of clear communication with the circulating RN to coordinate lighting, equipment handoffs, and surgical counts.
● understands the initial response and common first steps during an emergency. Identifies different types of emergency situations potentially faced by the surgical team, including different types of disasters.
● Understands the risks for patients and surgical team members for the following technologies: lasers, electrosurgery, and diagnostic radiation.
