I started with Womble as a Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC). I served as a mentor and resource for new hires. In January 2020, I was promoted to Medical Analysis Manager. I manage the caseload for 8 full-time LNCs, work on marketing for the Medical Analysis team, write blogs, and continue to perform the medical analysis and complete work products for Defense Mass Torts and Product Liability cases.
I worked in the Med-Surg Critical Care Unit and floated to the CVSICU and Trauma ICU. I maintained my ACLS certification, was able to lead codes, and managed critically ill patients on life-sustaining equipment and medications.
Worked in the Med-Surg Intensive Care Unit. Worked as Charge Nurse and Mentor for new hires. Maintained ACLS certification and was responsible for providing total care for patients in critical condition and on life-sustaining equipment including high frequency ventilators, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and multiple IV drip medications to maintain hemodynamic stability.
I started at Warren Memorial Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. This was a small acute care unit. Our patients primarily consisted of post-op patients, respiratory insufficiency patients on and off ventilators, rule-out myocardial infarctions, GI bleeds, and medication overdose/intoxication patients. I maintained my ACLS certification and served as the Charge Nurse.
In June 2001, I transferred to the Operating Room and Same Day Surgery Unit. In the Same Day Surgery Unit, I worked as a staff nurse and Charge Nurse. As a nurse in the Same Day Surgery Unit, I was responsible for assisting with pre-anesthesia evaluations and pre-operative education prepping the patients for surgery, and managing the post-operative care prior to discharge for outpatient surgeries. Additional responsibilities included preparing for, assisting, and maintaining documentation for outpatient procedures that were also performed in the unit including IV infusions, thoracentesis, paracentesis, phlebotomies, thyroid biopsies, epidural steroid injections, and outpatient ophthalmological laser procedures (i.e., YAG laser and capsulotomy).
Within 6 months, I was cross-trained in the Endoscopy Lab and worked as the RN, Circulator for endoscopy procedures. I also worked in the PACU unit recovering patients immediately following surgery and worked in the Operating Room as the nurse providing moderate sedation with monitoring for minimally invasive procedures.
I worked in a 4-bed Pulmonary Intensive Care Unit. Within 6 months, I was trained and worked as the Charge Nurse for the unit. I was responsible for the management of ventilated and critically-ill patients that were on cardiac monitors and life-sustaining and coma-inducing medications.
As a Travel Nurse for American Mobile Nurses, I worked in a 23-hour observation unit. I was the primary nurse for the 14-bed unit. Patients consisted of post-cardiac catheterization patients that needed overnight monitoring, post-op plastic surgery patients, post-op bone marrow biopsy patients, and served as an overflow Medical unit with telemetry.
As a Travel Nurse for American Mobile Nurses, I was assigned to the Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit. I continued to provide complete care for critically ill patients that were on ventilators, cardiac monitors, and life-sustaining medications. I maintained my ACLS certification and was able to lead codes.
As a staff nurse in the Intermediate Care Unit, I underwent a 6-month Critical Care Internship. Upon completion, I provided complete care for patients that were on ventilators, cardiac monitors, and life-sustaining medications. After one year in my role as staff nurse, I was trained and worked as the Charge Nurse for the 24-bed unit. I was certified in ACLS and was able to lead emergent resuscitation events (i.e. codes).
