
Dedicated and driven with seventeen years of experience as an educator and ten as a school counselor at both the elementary and high school levels, Have had the unique opportunity to work with students at every grade level, from Pre-K to 12th grade. Proven success in tackling diverse academic and social-emotional needs of students. Most recently added English Language Coordinator to position, implementing supports to address the complex settlement of newly arrived Palestinian immigrants. Approach to school counseling is goal-oriented and data-driven, rooted in the needs of the school.
· Guided an ongoing caseload of 20 high school students and parents in the college planning process and in finding the “best college fit” based on the following criteria: GPA, standardized test scores, school involvement, service-learning, and unique student factors.
· Assisted students in developing effective personal and scholarship essay(s) for college admissions.
· Assisted students and parents through completing all components of various types of college applications until September of college freshman year.
· Trained and became adept in teaching the following curricula: Advanced Placement Literature and Composition, English I, III, and IV, IB DP English, Senior Seminar, Journalism
· Served on the Instructional Leadership Team for the last five years of my tenure, implementing school-wide literacy Best Practices.
· Created and implemented relevant service-learning activities in the classroom to connect lessons to global awareness and advocacy.
· Implemented a variety of literacy strategies to address and accommodate diverse learning styles.
· Analyzed data and produced action plans with grade-level team members to ensure that rigor and learning are evident with all students.
· Employed a college preparatory curriculum using vertical teaming suited to students at all grade levels and learning abilities.
· Underscored real world connections to lessons in the classroom through the use of technology, field trips, and guest speakers.
· Completed administrative tasks and acted as liaison to administration as appointed team leader for English III and English IV and then as English Department Chair from 2013-2017.
· Directed student-led after-school tutoring sessions throughout tenure at Hyde Park.
