I have been in the mental health field as a Professional Counselor for 25 years. My studies at University of Northern Colorado included Agency Counseling and another 17 hours of education to be recognized in the Marriage and Family program. The program I attended is CACREP accredited.
Over the years of practicing, I have worked with Children, adolescents, and adults, with backgrounds from all over the world including their culture, race, religious practices, LGBTQ, etc. I have had the opportunity to work with children and families in foster care, legal issues, grief and loss, etc. I have had the pleasure and honor to work with our active and retired military veterans and families.
My experiences and exposure to different mental health issues have been working with victims of Factitious Disorder By proxy, Disassociate Identity disorder, PTSD to adjustment disorders. As well as childhood and adolescent disorders at any level of care. The treatment planning and goals are set around the assessment, outcome measures, and DSM-V diagnostic manual.
Many opportunities have come my way teaching parenting classes individually or in a group setting, workshops on childhood disorders and as an adjunct professor at Bellevue University teaching classes on the therapeutic process from a systems model and clinical psychology. It was a pleasure to share personal and clinical experiences to give the classroom setting a more unique atmosphere. As a team member I have to provided subject matter consultation to colleagues and trainees on the counseling process within various specialty areas, build on the foundation of competence through regular meetings and discussions to explain assignments. Part of the process and training colleagues and students were to review progress of cases and confer about the counseling perspectives and orientation. It was a privilege and honor to share with my students and other colleagues my experiences, skills, talents, mistakes, and success as a mental health practitioner.
Furthermore, I have had the experience of working with teams processing, clinical recommendations, and the best interest of the patients, and establishing work relations with the community. I am motivated and can also work independently and have had several situations over the years making decisions when emergencies call for it. Requires independent judgment and skill.
I look forward to new experiences and opportunities to learn more about my profession and collaborate as a team and with entities of the community that can further better care of patients, team and individual efforts.
