  • Collect, manage, and analyze performance data with respect to the four LEAP program goals. Make informed, data driven decisions concerning all aspects of the program.
  • Compile and submit the LEAP Annual Report each year detailing progress toward the four LEAP Program Goals, fall-to-spring persistence data, and fall-to-fall retention data.
  • Monitor, support, and communicate with all prospective provisionally admitted students with respect to recruitment and admission, including holding virtual information sessions, presenting at Winthrop Day, holding phone conferences, and meeting with families as requested.
  • Design, host, and manage recruitment, orientation, and special visits with students and families throughout the recruitment, admission, and preparation process to insure they understand benefits and expectations of Winthrop and the LEAP Program. Because many of these students had been fully admitted to other institutions, I am responsible for proving Winthrop to be a superior choice.
  • Serve as first contact for incoming provisionally admitted students and their families on issues that include clarification of LEAP Program expectations, financial aid, housing, counseling services, academic advisement, accessibility, immunization, etc.
  • Hire, train, manage, and supervise 12+ faculty, staff, alumni, and graduate and undergraduate students as tutors for evening study hall each semester to ensure dependability and dedication to ideals of the program.
  • Attend study hall (TR 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm) in both fall and spring semesters to support both students and tutors.
  • Supervise study halls to ensure effective and productive use of time for the LEAP students.
  • Organize small groups within study hall based on course enrollments and instructors.
  • Develop and review record keeping forms for data collection processes related to LEAP study hall goals, including attendance, draft submission collection, and use of supplemental tutors (Math, History, Political Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, etc).
  • Ensure that each student works with their assigned writing tutor to construct a timeline for submitting drafts in writing courses (WRIT 101, HMXP 102, CRTW 201). Monitor progress and submission of drafts.
  • Conference with students, Reed Fellows, and/or tutors as need to address concerns, including academic, attendance, personal, and/or behavioral issues.
  • Serve as an additional HMXP 102, WRIT 101, or History tutor as available and needed.
  • Manage the ACAD 102 course including both in-person and online components.
  • Maintain all aspects of daily program management.
  • Coordinate course schedules for approximately 130 students in the fall semester and serve as an academic advisor for all LEAP students in both fall and spring semesters.
  • Coordinate tracking of admits and acceptances with Admissions Director.
  • Evaluate high school transcripts and test scores to inform advising recommendations regarding course work.
  • Review student schedules following orientation to ensure that incoming students are enrolled in appropriate first-semester courses that meet degree requirements and facilitate participation in LEAP.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Composition, the HMXP 102 Director, Student Services Directors in all colleges, and various department chairs to ensure seats in LEAP-supported fall sections of general education courses.
  • Provide advising sessions for students that model good degree planning and scheduling practices for use during and after the LEAP program.
  • Facilitate registration during Summer Orientation to assist LEAP students with the first scheduling experience.
  • Monitor attendance of LEAP students in all classes.
  • Collect and review midterm grade information from instructors.
  • Hold individual advising sessions with each LEAP student to review and respond to midterm grade report; Help identify strengths and opportunities for growth in semester coursework and offer academic advising recommendations based upon a student’s individual midterm grade report.
  • Support decisions regarding use of course withdrawal and/or election of S/U grade and communicate any necessary registration changes to Records and Registration.
  • Communicate with students and families related to their academic progression and progress in the LEAP program, including update on student academic status following the first semester and disseminating midterm grades with estimated GPA to home address in both fall and spring semesters.
  • Ensure that each student participates in advising and registers for second semester courses.
  • Clarify reasons for any holds on student accounts and support student communication with appropriate services and/or offices related to holds.
  • Meet regularly with students in the LEAP program to manage academic and other critical needs related to student success, including campus-based concerns such as referrals to the Dean of Students’ Office, communication from instructors, college transition problems, major changes, scholarship requirements, etc.
  • Manage an ongoing communication plan with students and families to foster success at Winthrop and within the LEAP Program.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, families, and offices across the institution (e.g., Student Financial Services for billing; registrar for academic regulations; Residence Life; and college advising).
  • Coordinate a robust early orientation program (called Early Launch) in the fall semester, including designing content, implementing community building opportunities, and securing speakers from campus partners.
  • Organize early move-in of LEAP students with the Office of Residence Life and work with Dining Services to arrange meals not covered by meal plans.
  • Maintain contact with other student support offices such as the Dean of Students Office, Health and Counseling Services, Academic Success Center, Office of Accessibility, etc.
  • Facilitate the recruitment and selection of instructors and peer mentors for LEAP-dedicated ACAD 101 sections in partnership with the FYE Director.
  • Facilitate midterm grade training sessions for faculty members teaching LEAP sections of required courses (e.g., ACAD 101).
  • Envisioned, designed, and implemented a peer support program (Reed Fellowship Program) where high performing, former LEAP students serve as peer mentors and academic coaches to current LEAP students. Worked with partners in University Advancement and the Provost's Office to secure funding for scholarships for students who serve in this capacity.
  • Select, train, and supervise the Reed Fellows and manage all aspects of the program.
  • Design the academic mentoring and coaching curriculum (in concert with the Reed Fellows) to provide LEAP students with academic skills training (including time management, study strategies, etc) and other peer support, including discussing academic strategies, creating action plans, assessing their progress, and identifying needed support and resources.
  • Select, train, and supervise the LEAP Graduate Associate.
  • Maintain marketing and student resource materials for LEAP program (e.g., web page, Instagram, brochures).
  • Recommend successful LEAP students for full admission to the Director of Admissions.
  • Provide letters of recommendation for LEAP students for various campus employment positions, scholarships, and other opportunities.
