Executive Director in the assisted living setting who is a Speech-Language Pathologist with 29 years of experience specializing in the unique needs of the geriatric population.
I was recruited back to this community (formerly North Brook Place) by the new owner after several employees recommended rehiring me. After a remodel in 2019, this community has 48 residents (27 assisted living and 21 memory care) and 37 employees. I currently perform operational oversight and sales/marketing duties for the community. My ability to build relationships with customers (residents, staff, families, vendors) is top notch. I have not had a move out due to dissatisfaction in three years.
I was responsible for recruiting, hiring, and scheduling caregivers to work in client homes at this home care agency. This job helped me develop my interview and hiring skills since I was performing these duties on a daily basis. I left this position because I was unexpectedly recruited back to the assisted living world.
I was responsible for the daily operations and overall leadership of this 70 bed assisted living and memory care community in Allen, Texas. I developed my problem solving and customer service skills in this position by facing many challenges that affected employee and resident satisfaction. It was the first time in my entire work career that I experienced working for a company whose practices and philosophy ended up being very different from my own.
I will be forever grateful to Enlivant for hiring me in my first Executive Director role. I was responsible for the daily operations and overall leadership of this 50 bed assisted living community in Mckinney. I learned so much during this position. After my first several months on the job, we lost our sales manager and I took over sales and marketing as well. I learned what it was like to work the sales process for a company with more rigid sales quotas and expectations. This company did an excellent job of teaching me how to successfully pass state inspections.
I performed assessment and treatment for swallowing, communication, and cognitive (memory, attention, problem solving, thought organization) disorders for homebound clients. I carried out the Memory Care Specialty Program in assisted living and memory care facilities across San Antonio and then in Grayson and Collin Counties which included staging dementia using a variety of assessment tools and teaching dementia management strategies. I also conducted inservices and trainings focused on dementia for employees in assisted living communities.
I worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, and brain injury treatment facilities. Employers included PAM Rehab (formerly Warm Springs Rehab), Sava Senior Care, and Rehabcare, Inc. I completed diagnosis and treatment plans to address speech, language, voice, swallowing, and cognitive disorders in collaboration with other clinical professionals. I also trained and supervised numerous speech pathology interns in collaboration with several universities.
