Nurse-Patient ratio: 1:1-2

Responsibilities:

• Conducted thorough patient assessment, planning and evaluation of care within my sphere of responsibility, having regard for the differing needs of patients in the immediate postoperative period, promptly notifying physicians and initiating appropriate interventions when necessary.
• Provided total postoperative care for patients, including airway management, monitoring their state of consciousness and reporting any untoward changes in the patient’s condition to the Anesthetist and senior member of staff as per policy.
• Worked closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the promotion of high standards for all patients requiring all aspects of perioperative care, following appropriate training encompassing a variety of specialties.
• Administered prescribed medications safely via oral, intravenous, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, (including antidotes to reverse sedation and opioid adverse effects) according to established guidelines while closely monitoring for side effects or adverse reactions requiring intervention.
• Utilized critical thinking skills to prioritize nursing interventions based on patients' acuity levels and individual needs.
• Assisted Consultant Surgeons and junior doctors with routine and emergency procedures including but not limited to aseptic wound care, endotracheal re-intubation, central line insertion, and other invasive interventions essential in the immediate postoperative period.

Responsibilities:

• Provided support to staff in the clinical areas and facilitating excellent training and development opportunities for newly qualified, newly appointed, registered and unregistered nurses across the Trust.
• Supported nursing staff clinically through their preceptorship and induction period, supporting them to achieve their objectives and thus improving patient care.
• Assisted new registered nurses in clinical practice to develop clinical skills and encouraging workforce retention by supporting staff in their transition to competent registered practitioners.

• Delivered high quality training for internationally educated nurses to pass the OSCE exam for their Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration.
• Supported internationally educated nurses to achieve the entry requirements for the NMC register.
• Supported the role transition of internationally educated nurses through the preceptorship program after undertaking and passing the OSCE.
• Planned and delivered a bespoke training plan for nurses who require additional support to re-sit the OSCE following a failed attempt.
• Liaised with the ward managers to develop a plan of action that will help internationally educated nurses to achieve the NMC entry requirements including recording and evaluating progress.

Responsibilities:

• Managed the care of general surgery inpatients on the following specialties: Upper GI, Colorectal, Trauma, Gynecology, ENT, Maxillofacial, and Orthopedics.
• Provided direct patient care to individuals admitted in preparation for routine, elective, or emergency general surgical procedures.
• Utilized critical thinking skills to prioritize nursing interventions based on patients' acuity levels and individual needs.
• Administered prescribed medications safely according to established guidelines while closely monitoring for side effects or adverse reactions requiring intervention.

• Managed the care of patients with a wide range of medical conditions and carried out routine nursing skills in the ward setting, including but not limited to: Nasogastric Tube care and Feeding, Gastric lavage and gavage, Urinary catheter insertions, IV catheter insertions, Suctioning, Tracheostomy care, Colostomy care, Enema, Nebulization, Oxygen Therapy, Chest Physiotherapy, blood-glucose monitoring, GCS monitoring, Antibiotic Skin Testing, Administering Blood Transfusions, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitations, Post-Mortem Care and others.
• Conducted thorough patient assessment, planning and evaluation of care within my sphere of responsibility, having regard for the differing needs of patients depending on the clinical diagnosis and prognosis, promptly notifying physicians and initiating appropriate interventions when necessary.

• Carried out routine nursing skills in ward setting including, but not limited to: Nasogastric Tube care and Feeding, Gastric lavage and gavage, Urinary catheter insertions, IV catheter insertions, Suctioning, Tracheostomy care, Colostomy care, Enema, Nebulization, Oxygen Therapy, Chest Physiotherapy, blood-glucose monitoring, GCS monitoring, Antibiotic Skin Testing, Administering Blood Transfusions, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitations, Post-Mortem Care and others.
• Utilized critical thinking skills to prioritize nursing interventions based on patients' acuity levels and individual needs.
• Administered prescribed medications safely according to established guidelines while closely monitoring for side effects or adverse reactions requiring intervention.
